The agricultural industry's impact on the environment is a growing concern. With Rotofarm, Toby Farmer aims to address this issue by encouraging people to grow their own green produce at home. By reducing land clearing, deforestation, emissions from refrigeration and transportation, and food wastage, Rotofarm offers a sustainable solution to our food needs.
Rotofarm takes inspiration from rotary hydroponic gardens used in space stations and large-scale agricultural applications. Toby Farmer has refined this concept into a consumer product that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
What sets the Bace Rotofarm apart is its space-efficient design. The circular farmbed rotates 360 degrees per hour, creating a 1.5-meter-long flat growing surface when unraveled. Despite its impressive growing capacity, the Rotofarm occupies just a 30 cm footprint on your kitchen countertop. This innovative design allows for accelerated plant growth, as the plants spend half their time upside-down in negative gravity.
Not only does the Rotofarm provide a sustainable source of organic vegetables, but it also boasts a sleek and all-in-one design. Constructed from highly-recyclable materials such as aluminum and stainless steel, the Rotofarm is not only environmentally friendly but also visually appealing.
One of the key challenges in designing the Rotofarm was creating an optimal flow of liquid nutrients and water from the base to the farmbed. Toby Farmer and his team developed interior "root guides" that encourage lateral growth of plant roots within a small space, eliminating the need for downward growth. Additionally, the Rotofarm's bright LED light tube, which replicates sunlight composition, can be split into four independently dimmable zones. This allows for different plant species to thrive, and the light zones even follow the plants as they rotate.
Operating the Rotofarm is effortless, thanks to its intelligent app-controlled automation. Multiple sensor systems and liquid pumps, driven by a single system-on-chip, ensure that the technology and maintenance seamlessly disappear. The Rotofarm automatically feeds plants with ideal levels of water and nutrients, efficiently pumped from the water and nutrient reservoirs in the base. With the Rotofarm, you can focus on growing and enjoying healthy home-grown vegetables without the hassle.
The Bace Rotofarm is a testament to the possibilities of merging design, innovation, and sustainability. It offers a glimpse into the future of indoor hydroponic gardening, where anyone can have access to fresh and organic produce right in their own kitchen.
With its unique design and commitment to sustainability, it comes as no surprise that the Bace Rotofarm has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Home Appliances category. This award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and resourcefulness of the design, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of life and making the world a better place.
Experience the future of indoor gardening with the Bace Rotofarm and join the movement towards a more sustainable and self-sufficient lifestyle.
